2Kinky
By Sandra Kovach
This is just an average hose in that it transports water. It does have some taste to it. But most disappointing is that it has a permanent kink to it. When you unravel the hose it tries to go in that direction and it certainly goes in that direction when you try to wind it up. So, when it says the hose is soft and flexible don't mistake this to mean that it is not going to kink.If you want for an RV pay more and get a hose that will lie straight and roll up easy. This is just a run of the mill water hose.

5It's a hose, alright...
By K. E. Manne
It's a water hose -- not much to say. It connects well, carries water, and doesn't seem to flavor the water at all that I can taste.I strongly recommend EVERY RV carry at least 75'-100' of clean water line to reach inconvenient water supplies (I've been in SO many sites where the water is on the wrong side AND way far away -- advertised as water supplied at site, but you need 100' of hose to get it to your trailer!). The variable length of hose needed at each site mandates multiple lengths of hose to be used or removed as needed to keep from tripping on/kinking extra hoses, so this is a good length to have a couple of.BTW: I also suggest that everyone carry at least 25' of lower-quality "sewer cleanout" hose (stored separated!) -- too many sites have no hose, a cut-off hose that won't work with your tank shower/"Sewer Solution", or a hose that's just too gross to handle much.

2Great Hose, But Don't Connect Two 1/2" Valterra Hoses Together - They WILL Leak!
By Gerald B. Curtis
Update Review: July 22, 2012Today, Valterra's 10 Year Guaranteed 120 or 160 psi hose burst while in use outdoors at 80 psi. Perhaps it was a flaw in the hose, but I think not.Given my horses' need for uninterrupted drinking water, I chose to spend about $5.00 to repair the section of damaged hose with an in-line hose repair coupling rather than invoke the warranty. As you read below, even if I were to ask for another hose, the impossibility of coupling it to another Valterra hose satisfactorily with the provided brass coupling ends would result in a leak at the coupling. Now that I have run the full gamut of difficulties with Valterra's product, I am still satisfied that they provide a potable water hose - just not one ready for prime time, and possibly NOT capable of withstanding even 80 psi water pressure. My ultimate fix will be to continue to repair bursts (if they occur) and to ask Valterra to reimburse me each time for my chosen repair approach. Well see about THAT... .If a hose length longer than 50' is required, I recommend removing one or more male and female hose terminations and then joining multiple lengths with the aforementioned repair kit, and then being prepared for possible bursts while the hose is in use, even at 80 psi!Previous (June 6, 2012) Product Review BelowAfter a discussion with Valterra Tech Support, I am satisfied that they provide a truly lead-free hose and brass fittings that when used, a SINGLE hose length at a time, will transport potable water at the rated pressures without leaking. However, leaking WILL occur when TWO 1/2" diameter Valterra hoses are joined. And, they WILL leak at that male-female brass fitting connection.Unfortunately, the fittings that Valterra uses are provided from a third party (not Chinese made, thank you) and although they are lead-free, are poorly designed and are supplied with a cheap lead-free washer that cannot overcome those poor-design fitting faults. It is too complicated to discuss fully here, but sufficeth it to say that the fittings of two hoses WILL NOT seat against themselves, even with their supplied washer, well enough to prevent minor leaking at the connection at 80 psi, well below the advertised and warranted 110 or 120 psi water pressure. My workaround (because invoking the warranty would NEVER have corrected the problem) involved obtaining a commonly available, good quality, EPDM hose washer from a plumbing supply house, one that is of SLIGHTLY larger external diameter than the Valterra-supplied washer and one with a smaller internal diameter hole (still greater than 1/2" D.), thus providing more landing space for the male AND female ends of the brass fittings that will allow a proper seal to be effected. And, not wishing to fool further with the problem since I had thirsty horses, as a belt-and-suspenders approach, I applied food-grade silicone sealant to the INSIDE of the female fitting BEFORE inserting the EPDM washer, and then added more silicone sealant on top of the inserted washer.I allowed the silicone to cure overnight, and - no more leaks!Valterra says they will see if they can convince their fittings' supplier to change their design, but since Valterra does not make a 100' hose because of lack of demand for such a long length in the RV marketplace, I doubt if a fix will occur. These comments apply to a 1/2" diameter hose, and the problem may not occur with a 3/4" D. hose, but I doubt it.The 1/2" D. hose is a great hose - just use them one length at a time, or don't connect them together, and no leaks will result.Valterra W01-5600 White 1/2" x 50' Drinking Water Hose
